Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a medical technician taking part in her first shuttle mission. Their commander is veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney), who is leading his final flight before retirement. But during the pair’s routine spacewalk, disaster strikes: the shuttle is destroyed, and Ryan and Matt are stranded in space, with no connection to Earth and no hope of rescue.
